The most valuable investment

I ended 2022 by making an investment in a professional training I’ve been eyeing for months and feeling the pull of intuition towards. It took me months to take the plunge and sign up, not because I was unsure about how epic the training will be for me personally and in turn for my Vedic meditation teaching and mentoring, but because I allowed myself to entertain fearful thoughts around the financial investment and whether it was the “right time”.

The truth is, there is truly never a right time. Did I have the funds available to invest in the training up front? No, but just as I do in The Still, the teacher offered a very flexible payment plan.

Sitting in the passenger seat with my husband on the way to our camping holiday destination, the training appeared in my Instagram feed again and I felt the familiar tug of intuition that taking this training was the next right step for my personal and professional expansion.

I reflected on everything I had to gain (an endless list of benefits for my consciousness state, body and nervous system and in turn those of everyone I serve through The Still) and what I had to lose (nothing).

I asked myself, do I trust in my capacity to make the monthly payments?

One of my favourite Maharishi Mahesh Yogi quotes came to mind, my go to whenever my mind entertains limiting beliefs around money and abundance.

“Where is the money going to come from? From wherever it is at the moment.” Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Of course I trust myself.

One of the life-altering things I’ve realised through my Vedic studies is that there is no limit to the abundance we’re able to create and attract, the only limits are those we impose on ourselves through our thoughts and beliefs and the energy blocks they create.

With my faulty thinking about it not being the right time to invest in myself corrected, I took the plunge. Applied for the training, spoke with the head teacher, gratefully accepted the place offered to me and made the first payment.

I felt a mixture of excitement, pride in myself for taking the plunge and a big old dose of self-doubt. With the spaciousness my meditation practice affords me between me and my thoughts, I noticed the self-doubting thoughts and didn’t make them bad or wrong. I allowed the thoughts to have their time, knowing that if I didn’t resist them they would lose their charge and dissipate. Within a day or so, they did just that.

One thing I know through my own direct experience is that money comes and goes, and I’ve never regretted an investment that supported me to expand my state of being and therefore be more fully in my life.

The best investments I’ve ever made are those that have given me knowledge and practices that support me to feel safe in my body, to have space between me and my thoughts, to know myself deeply. To stop living in the past and the future. To stop seeking happiness in possessions, titles and relationships and find happiness at its source: inside myself. To be self-sufficient for my own happiness. To have the capacity to understand my inner world and to be present with myself, in my relationships and in my business. To be someone who shares myself and my gifts in a way that supports the collective. To be someone who contributes positively to my communities. Any investment that increases my capacity for all these things and more is an investment that will pay itself off again and again in every aspect of my life.

Because if I’m not enjoying my life and sharing myself in a way that creates a positive ripple effect, what’s the use in money in the bank, a lovely home, or nice clothes?

“We only leave this world with two things: the vibration we’ve achieved in our life and the love we’ve given to others.” Maharishi Mahesh Yogi

Money comes and goes. When we invest in expanding our state of being, we align ourselves with the impulses of nature and find that the things we desire (love, happiness, joy, present moment awareness, abundance in all forms) come out of hiding and start to flow freely in our direction.

Investing in our state of being is the single best investment to generate more of everything with true currency. Health, happiness, connection, community.

For me, all of this started when I invested in learning Vedic meditation in 2017 and discovered the real me, beyond my incessant over-thinking, anxiety and depression.
