The Healing Merry-go-round

When I found my way into the wellness world in 2017—I fell hook, line & sinker for the “healing” rhetoric: you’ll feel better once you’ve “healed” & “released all your trauma”. ⁣

This worldview very much appealed to the parts of me that were convinced I was flawed or broken.⁣ (Can you relate?)

So, I got to work. I analysed & pathologised everything from my attachment style to my emotional sensitivity to my self-doubting tendencies. ⁣

While trauma is of course a very real thing—for many of us, the pursuit of healing gets in the way of how we want to feel. ⁣

This was certainly the case for me, until I discovered nature-led somatics. ⁣

The belief that we’re not where we want to be because we need to heal more, keeps us stuck on a healing merry-go-round.⁣

What I experienced, I see time & time again in my coaching clients:⁣

➡️ Find the wellness world out of a desire to feel better.⁣
➡️ Intellectually engage with healing / trauma concepts & apply them to yourself.⁣
➡️ Experience some validation from the new language for your experiences.⁣
➡️ Over time, become increasingly frustrated that your new knowledge does not translate to significant, lasting change in how you think & feel. ⁣
➡️ Painful self-awareness: watching yourself repeat old patterns, with little access to choice in the moment.⁣
➡️ You still doubt yourself, get triggered & overwhelmed—only now, accompanied by a new storyline: you’re failing at healing, too. ⁣

Until we land in the knowing that every single part of us makes perfect sense & every feeling, reaction & limiting belief holds wisdom for us to mine and integrate (*not* release)—we’ll never get off the healing merry-go-round. ⁣

In all of my spaces, we focus on two things: ⁣

1️⃣ Giving your body what it needs to integrate big experiences, unfelt emotion & nervous system patterns.
2️⃣ Enlivening your most instinctive ways of being—discernment, self-trust, nourishment, clear thinking & honest self-expression.

When these states become your default, the belief that you need to “heal” no longer fits. ⁣
